Le Meridien Luxor
by Jimmy Dunn
This is another first for us from the standpoint of hotel reviews. Actually, it is not a review at all, but rather more of a pictorial, as this hotel has not yet opened. People who have traveled to Egypt and Luxor, and particularly those who have stayed at the Sonesta St. George, have witnessed the construction of this hotel for some time now, as it is the Le Meridien located just next door. I had intended on visiting the hotel for a review, but I was unaware that it had not yet been completed. This is, of course, a sneak preview, and demonstrates that baksheesh in Egypt is not always a bad thing. I must admit that I wasn't shown the hotel by regular management.
Judging from the rooms that are furnished and appear ready for occupancy, we suspect that this five star Le Meridien hotel is not far from opening. I walked about its halls, terrace, courtyards and was impressed by the refined design work that went into its construction. It is a fairly large facility, with a lobby area followed by an large open courtyard and then the what appears to be the main accommodation area. Behind the hotel on the Nile side is a huge terrace area extending down close to the Nile river bank.
This hotel chain with a number of facilities in Egypt has a good reputation for service and hospitality, and we are sure that when opened, the Luxor hotel will continue this tradition. It will also provide a great deal more competition for the other five star hotels in the most touristic of Egyptian cities.
