Jewelry of Queen Mereret

Description:

The jewelry of Queen Mereret from Dahshur, now in the Cairo Museum, is a fine example of the use of amulets. The falcon pendant holds the shen sign, symbolizing eternity, in it's talons. The necklace has as it's clasp two sa signs flanking a central ankh; together they read 'all protection and life'. The five inlaid 'motto' clasps in the middle function as hieroglyphs and with the other signs read as the Egyptian word for 'joy'.
