In this picture taken at the end of the nineteenth century Giuseppe Botti, the founder of the Graeco-Roman Museum (1892), is inspecting the remains of an Ionic peristyle courtyard in a large tomb in the Karmuz quarter, not far from Pompey's Pillar.
