A Queen of Ramesses the Great

A Queen of Ramesses the Great. This portrait of one of Ramesses' queens was found in the Ramesseum, his mortuary temple. It is made of painted limestone and is somewhat smaller than life size. Only the upper part of the figure survives, but even damaged as it is, it is one of the most appealing of ancient Egyptian statues. The queen wears the crown reserved for the Great kings wife: a circlet of cobra's heads, which was surmounted by twin feathers, elongated cow's horns and the disc of the sun.
