Necropolis of Assiut

While the tombs of this necropolis house most only the dead leaders of this region, several provide insight into national events of the Pharaonic period. On the first terrace of the cliff, there is a tomb of Hapidjefa was was the 'Prince ofAssiut, but alas he was not buried here, but in Nubia. On the second terrace the southernmost tomb is that Itybi. More interesting is the tomb of his son Khety, in the center, which shows scenes of the battles between the kings of Heracleopolis and Thebes. Another tomb to the north which is that of another Khety displays images of hydrological work that was done to make better use of the Nile floods.
