Weather in Egypt in January

January is a great time to visit Egypt. Since the weather is a bit on the cooler side, its ideal for visiting the sites, especially those in the desert which would normally otherwise be too hot for most people. Overall, January is probably the wettest month Egypt experiences, and by wet we mean that it experiences some rainfall, possibly 2-3 times during the month. Otherwise the month is pretty dry, with temperatures ranging from 65F (18.3C) in Alexandria in the north, to 75F (23.8C) in Aswan in the south. In the desert, temperatures are quite comfortable (around 77F/25C during the day, and 50F/10C at night) meaning that a t-shirt will suffice for most people during the daytime, while a warm blanket is necessary at night. Of course this is much better than the summer desert temperatures that make oasis visits difficult. In January, the Sahara Desert and Upper Egypt are definitely the ideal destinations.
