Decorated Vase

JE 54502 Cairo Antiquities Museum

Material: Terracotta
Size: Height: 30.5 cm
Period: Roman Period (4th Century AD)

Terracotta was a material used throughout Egyptian history to make various objects, but the range of items made from Terracotta was considerably expanded during the Roman Period.

In this example one face of the vase is decorated with a scene positioned on two superimposed planes, all framed within a circle of two relief lines which echo the shape of the vessel.

Unfortunately the provenance of this vase is unknown.
