Period: New Kingdom (1550-1069 BC

Considering the delicacy and fine materials of this frog, it may not have been a toy, though other similar examples such as cats with wooden mouths that open and a clay mouse with movable wooden tail and jaw are thought to have been play items for children. However, the purpose of this particular item is unknown.

Frogs, called bekhen or kerer, were a common domestic motif in ancient Egypt, associated with fertility.
