Location: Saqqara, the Serapeum
Period: 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC)

Ptah was, of course, one of the most major deities in ancient Egypt, whose worship extended throughout the country. In this statue, the deities wears his customary skullcap and straight beard. His body is enclosed in a tight fitting mummiform garment. His hands break out of the shroud to grasp a was (meaning "dominion" or "power") scepter. His right hand also wraps around the curved section of an ankh symbol.
