Marble Bust of Sarapis
Description:
The god invented by Ptolemy I can be recognized by his mature appearance, his long beard, the five corkscrew curls on his forehead and his modius headdress. This inverted vase shape decorated with leaves is a symbol of prosperity. The deity borrowed his characteristic features and his powers from Osiris, Aesculapius, Hades and Zeus.
