JE 46356 Cairo Antiquity Museum

Material: Lapis Lazuli, Gold, Silver, Semiprecious Stones
Size: Height: 77 cm
Location: Dendera, Greasure
Period: Greek Period (304-330 BC) The sacred scarab beetle became closely associated with the concept of rebirth and other ideas of the afterlife. They were most often made from green, blue or black material such as faience or stones, because these were the colors associated with the birth of nature and the black silt that brought fertility to the Nile Valley. Winged scarabs are generally funerary amulets and are known as 'heart scarabs'.
