Callixeinos of Rhodes

Callixeinos of Rhodes was an author who described the great procession of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, saying that a cult of Dionysus is the focal point and the floats exhibited extravagant scenarios of the god and his cult-followers, the grape harvest, and enormous golden phallus fifty meters long with a gold star three meters in circumference at the end, to emphasize the priapic aspect of his worship.
